Specialty Pharmacy
75 percent of employers offer a specialty pharmacy benefit. However, a detailed review of the cost sharing data supplied by employers indicates that specialty cost share amounts typically fall under the preferred or nonpreferred brand amounts.

Slightly more than half of the employers — 51.5% — require those specialty drugs reimbursed under the drug benefit to be dispensed by the pharmacy benefit manager’s designated pharmacy (see Table 7).

Future surveys will monitor these dispensing arrangements to identify trends in how employers are managing specialty pharmacy.
