New Drug Pricing Methodology In Action
Hear from Wal-Mart Pharmacy and Caterpillar, Inc. on their pilot direct prescription pricing program. Under this program, Caterpillar has contracted directly with Wal-Mart Pharmacy, using a new pricing methodology based on Wal-Mart's actual invoice prices on drugs. Caterpillar employees who sign up for the Wal-Mart program have access to about 2,500 tier-one generic drugs for free.

Case Studies from the 2009 Rx Benefit Innovation Award Recipients
Hear from the professionals who designed and implemented the drug benefit solutions that PBMI recognized this year with its Rx Benefit Innovation Awards:
  • The Coal/Energy Coalition and Pro Pharma Pharmaceutical Consultants, Inc. are recognized for a Quality Iniatiative to Improve Patient Prescribing which improves the quality of pharmaceutical care while lowering drug trend. The program targets prescribers in seven states that are among the highest utilizers of prescription drugs.
  • New Mexico Public Schools Insurance Authority (NMPSIA) and Catalyst Rx are recognized for increasing immunizations in rural areas through a Pharmacists as Immunization Providers program. Since July 2006, pharmacists certified to administer immunizations have provided about 29,000 vaccines to over 15,400 NMPSIA members in more than 120 communities.
  • State of Arkansas Employee Benefits Program and informedRx, an SXC Company, are recognized for a Clinical Date Integration and Risk Prediction Program to improve benefit design decision-making and care management priorities. Their patient-centric repository integrates medical claims, pharmacy claims, risk prediction and health risk assessment data to help better assess the clinical needs of members.
  • University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy and Rhode Island Department of Corrections (RIDOC) are recognized for their Higher Education/State Agency Pharmacy Management Model that increases efficiency, curbs costs and improves Rx care in seven correctional facilities. PharmD students are involved in all aspects of managing this pharmacy program, giving them experience not typically part of pharmacy education.
