Brenda Motheral, MBA, PhD 

Dr. Brenda Motheral is Executive Director of the Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute. She began her career as a research scientist in the area of cost-effectiveness of pharmaceuticals. Since that time, she has led research, product development, and strategy in the pharmacy benefit and disease management industries. Her work has focused on leveraging applied research for drug coverage decisions, identifying and designing new products, and implementing large health services programs. Over the last decade, Dr. Motheral has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles in the areas of cost-effectiveness, pharmaceutical cost management, and disease management and has received national research awards from both The Academy for Managed Care Pharmacy and The International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research. She also holds a faculty appointment at The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and previously served as a faculty member at The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy and as the Director of the University’s Center for Pharmaceutical Policy. Kathleen Fairman, MA

Kathleen Fairman is Vice President of Research and Education for the Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute. Formerly the Associate Editor and Senior Methodology Reviewer for the Journal of Managed Care Pharmacy (JMCP) from 2006 to 2012, she has authored or coauthored numerous peer-reviewed articles including more than 50 Medline-indexed publications. Previously, she conducted research for Express Scripts, a large pharmacy benefits management company, and AHCCCS, Arizona's Medicaid Agency. At AHCCCS, Fairman managed the agency’s policy evaluation department, provided analytic support for negotiations with federal officials, and oversaw the setting of provider payment rates based on analyses of medical claims data.

Fairman’s textbook on research methods, Health Care Research Done Right, has been described by reviewers as “research made fun” and "a wealth of information and advice." She was a co-recipient of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy's "Award for Excellence" in 2003 and 2004. Fairman is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Wellesley College with departmental honors and Durant Scholar (magna cum laude) status. She earned a Master's Degree in Sociology, with Phi Kappa Phi distinction, from Arizona State University, concentrating in multivariate statistics and survey research methods.

Linda DeChant 

Linda DeChant is director of sales for the Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute. She has more than 25 years of experience in marketing, sales and client relations. She has spent the vast majority of her career in the pharmacy benefit management industry where she has long-standing business relationships in every industry segment.

 Before joining PBMI, Linda was a key member of the marketing team for CVS Caremark where she was responsible for managing the PBM’s presence in regional and national trade shows. She produced and staffed CVS Caremark exhibits, and served as the company’s liaison to industry trade associations. In addition, she organized and produced Caremark client events, including the annual client forums.

 Linda joined Caremark in 1990 when the company was in its infancy as PCS. She has experienced the evolution of the industry over nearly two decades and has a keen understanding of the varied stakeholder roles and business needs.

 Early in her career, Linda spent eight years in marketing and sales for Fairchild Aircraft in San Antonio, Texas. Her responsibilities included sales administration, marketing, managing trade shows and building relationships with clients and prospects. You can contact Linda at ldechant@pbmi.com.

 

Julie Blackman

Julie Blackman is Marketing Manager for the Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute (PBMI). She is responsible for the implementation of marketing strategies, development of marketing communications and other marketing activities for the organization.

Prior to joining PBMI, she worked for CVS Caremark and held positions in product marketing, primary market research and proposal management. She has 15 years experience in pharmacy benefit management. Julie has a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and a Bachelor of Science in Communication from Arizona State University.

Shelly Carey

Shelly Carey, MMR, is Research Director for the Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute. She is responsible for all research conducted by PBMI as well as creation of the resulting reports. Before joining PBMI, Shelly held various market research roles on both the client and supplier side. Her experience includes research design, execution and analysis. Previous positions include data analysis and research for Express Scripts, where she worked for over 10 years.

Shelly obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Math/Statistics as well as her Master of Market Research from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
